Other arrangements for training and job-search
Collective agreements frequently improve on the statutory minimum rules on time off to look for work or arrange training, allowing more days, or allowing time off after planned redundancies have been announced but before any decision has been taken as to who is to be made redundant. Acas guidance recommends extra steps including:
• contacting the local job centre which provides a free service, bringing together employers and vacancies or training opportunities with job hunters, and in larger redundancy exercises, setting up on-site facilities;
• contacting other local employers to canvas for vacancies;
• giving employees first option of employment when conditions improve;
• providing information on the financial effects of redundancy, pension payments and state benefits;
• helping with training in job search, completion of application forms and training for job interviews; and
• engaging skilled counsellors to offer support.
