Health and Safety Law 2024
Hazards magazine’s Choked campaign materials set out the case for the occupational exposure limit for respirable crystalline silica (RCS) to be at least halved from 0.1 mg/m3 to 0.05mg/m3, with a phased reduction to 0.025mg/m³. Countries including Austria, Denmark and France have already introduced a 0.05mg/m3 limit. Hazards says halving the limit would reduce dramatically the incidence of the lung scarring occupational disease silicosis, lung cancer, auto-immune diseases and other silica-related conditions and save 4,000 lives a year.
