Several health risks are associated with working at night, and it is therefore more highly regulated. According to the TUC publication, A hard day’s night: “There is a significant body of evidence that shift work, and in particular night work, can lead to cardiovascular problems, obesity, diabetes and breast cancer. Shift work is also linked to stomach problems and ulcers, depression and an increased risk of injury.” It can also have a negative impact on work/life balance, disrupting home life and relationships.
