Self-certification

The Statutory Sick Pay scheme (SSP) itself simply requires that if an employee is absent for four days or more in a row, they should self-certify by completing an employee’s statement of sickness (form SC2). However, employers are not obliged to use that form and are very likely to have their own self-certification procedures — especially if they are paying occupational sick pay (OSP) above and beyond SSP requirements.
