Safe Home campaign
The Equity performers and creative practitioners’ union has welcomed £10,000 investment from Belfast City Council to support its Safe Home campaign at venues in the city.
The union says performing artists can be vulnerable when working at entertainment venues, particularly when working alone.
The Safe Home campaign calls on venue owners and managers to agree to a set of principles.
These include that two members of staff accompany artists to their ongoing transport, unless they request otherwise; and artists are provided with reputable taxi firm numbers to arrange their transport.
The council’s funding will pay for an online video resource, Safe Home posters for Belfast venues outlining their commitment to the principles, and a website listing those who have signed up to the initiative and providing additional advice for venues.
