Italy’s largest union grows
The latest membership figures from CGIL, Italy’s largest union confederation, show modest growth in 2024.
Total membership is now 5,172,844, 0.45% higher than in 2023. But economically active membership — almost half CIGL’s members are retired — has increased by 2.65%. This means that the active membership is now 2,753,824, compared with 2,682,805 in 2023.
Women make up almost half the membership at 49.4%, although these figures are not broken down between active members and pensioners.
