Luton Airport expansion

The Unite general union has welcomed government approval for the expansion of London Luton Airport which, it says, will create 4,200 new jobs.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said these must be well-paid, skilled and unionised jobs and called for “joined up thinking” by government to promote employment and meet environmental commitments.

But the Campaign for Climate Change trade union group described expansion at Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports as “catastrophic climate fail”.

It said there is no credible technological solution to counter the huge increase in emissions.
