Recognition deals
The University and College Union (UCU) has won a recognition deal at the Royal College of Art (RCA) as part of resolution to a long-running dispute over casualised contracts.
Members of the union’s RCA branch voted to accept a deal which also includes full employment rights for all, no more zero-hours contracts, new routes to permanent contracts and caps on workloads.
UCU general secretary Jo Grady said the members at RCA, who have taken 41 days of strike action during the dispute, “have forced huge concessions from an employer who have until now been one of the worst offenders in the higher education sector when it comes to reliance on casualised contracts”.
