Occasional (ad-hoc) working from home
[ch 1: pages 5-6]• Pre-pandemic this was the most common type of homeworking and means taking work home on an ad-hoc basis.
• It might be granted to allow someone to focus on a specific task without any interruptions.
• It might also be granted if someone can’t get into work for an exceptional reason such as adverse weather conditions.
• It might also be used in cases where following an illness or operation homeworking is recommended as part of a phased return.
• In most cases it will be up to the employee’s line-manager to authorise working from home requests, taking into account the needs of the organisation.
