6. The workplace and the working environment

This chapter covers the contents of, and the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and union guidance around implementing, the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 (Workplace Regulations) which lay down minimum standards for workplaces, the working environment and welfare facilities. It outlines the latest workplace guidance on Covid and ventilation, cleanliness, welfare facilities and rest areas, workstations and seating, space and work-related travel. It also summarises the requirements of all the Workplace Regulations as well as additional information on accommodating breastfeeding, smoking, driving and industry-specific laws.
