Legionnaires’ disease in unoccupied workplaces

Many workplaces have closed or had reduced occupancy during the pandemic, increasing the risk of Legionnaires’ disease where water system stagnation has occurred due to lack of use. The HSE advises employers, as well as the self-employed and people in control of premises such as landlords, that they have a duty to protect people by identifying and controlling risks associated with legionella. Its website provides guidance on doing this.
