Covid and mental health - a guide for union reps

Chapter 1

LGBT+ workers

[ch 1: pages 13-14]

Covid-19 has required everyone to regularly and thoroughly wash their hands but the Wales TUC warns that trans people can be particularly vulnerable to harassment and violence when using public or work toilets.

It also points out that issues facing LGBT+ workers during the pandemic include experiencing domestic abuse from a partner, but also from people they are living with. Living in quarantine with homophobic family members or flatmates can increase the risk of hate crimes and domestic abuse.

The TUC says LGBT+ workers have reported experiencing higher levels of hostility and abuse from the public and co-workers throughout the pandemic, and these homophobic, biphobic and transphobic workplace hate incidents have had a negative impact on their mental health.
