[ch 14: page 535]In-work mediation can play an important role in resolving workplace disputes if it is genuinely voluntary and if refusing mediation does not prevent someone accessing the ET to resolve their dispute. Crucially, in-work mediation aims to resolve disputes while a worker remains employed, helping them stay in work. The TUC and Acas have published joint guidance on good practice, Mediation: a guide for trade union representatives, available on the TUC website. Acas, as a reputable, trusted and impartial organisation, is the TUC’s preferred mediator.
