Universal Credit and other in-work benefits - a guide for union reps and workers

Chapter 4

How much can you get?

[ch 4: page 45]

PIP payments are made up of a daily living component and a mobility component. You could get money for one or both parts, at either a standard or enhanced rate. People who are terminally ill and whose death can reasonably be expected within six months receive the enhanced rate of the daily living component.

Government guidance on PIP makes clear that to be eligible you must have a long-term health condition or disability and face difficulties with “daily living” or getting around or both.

In addition, you must have had these difficulties for three months and expect them to last for at least nine months, unless you are terminally ill and do not expect to live for more than six months.

PIP payment rates

Weekly rate Daily living component Mobility component
Standard £58.70 £23.20
Enhanced £87.65 £61.20

PIP is normally paid into your account every four weeks. It is tax free and you can get it whether you are in or out of work. How much you get depends on how your health condition or disability affects you.
