Chapter 5

Winter Fuel Payment

[ch 5: page 82]

The Winter Fuel Payment is an annual payment of between £100 and £300 paid to pensioner households. The amount of Winter Fuel Payment that you can get varies according to your personal situation.

Most people who are entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment do not need to make a claim. If you get State Pension and another social security benefit (not Child Benefit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support or Universal Credit) you do not need to make a claim. A Winter Fuel Payment will be made automatically.

If you successfully claimed a Winter Fuel Payment the previous year and your circumstances have not changed, you also do not need to make a claim.

Winter Fuel Payments are separate from the Cold Weather Payment (see page 43). To make a claim for Winter Fuel Payment go to: www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment/how-to-claim.
