Pensioners who work and Universal Credit
[ch 5: page 82]As Universal Credit replaces Housing Benefit (HB) and Child Tax Credit, and is only for working-age people, pensioners who have rent and dependent children need to be supported in a different way.
Because of this, there will be some changes to Pension Credit so that it includes support for rent and an additional amount for those pensioners with dependent children.
According to the charity AgeUK, Pension Credit will include a new housing credit to help towards rent. This is expected to come in for new claimants from 2017 onwards. Pension Credit will also include additional amounts if you have dependent children, because Child Tax Credit will be abolished. It says it is not clear when this change will happen, but it is unlikely to be before October 2016.
