Help with a mortgage

Help with mortgage interest payments and loans for some repairs and home improvements, called Support for Mortgage Interest, changed from being a benefit to a loan on 6 April 2018. You can only claim it if you are out of work or of pension age, and you usually need to be claiming one of the following benefits:

• Income Support;

• income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA);

• income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA);

• Pension Credit; or

• UC.
