Caste
In a u-turn following two defeats in the House of Lords, in April 2013 the government agreed to legislate to outlaw caste discrimination, which affects approximately 400,000 people in the UK. The government will consult on changes to the EA 10 to include “caste” as an aspect of race discrimination. The ECHR is to investigate caste prejudice and publish its findings later in 2013, to determine what other steps are needed alongside changes to the law.
