Redundancy law - a guide to using the law for union reps

Chapter 1

Leaving too early means no redundancy payment

An employee who leaves work after planned redundancies have been announced but before being given notice of their dismissal for redundancy has no right to redundancy pay (Secretary of State for Employment v Greenfield EAT/147/89). In general, the rule is that redundancy notice has only been given if the employee has been given a termination date.
