Investigating work-related deaths
There is an HSE protocol for liaison on work-related deaths between nine organisations including the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Crown Prosecution Service, the Local Government Association and the British Transport Police. Under this protocol, police must be involved in a manslaughter investigation from the time they arrive at the scene of death and only stop if it becomes apparent during the investigation that there is insufficient evidence that manslaughter has been committed.
