Law at Work 2013

Chapter 3

Government plans for an online portable DBS checking system

Individuals are often asked to meet the cost of DBS checks themselves. Especially for low-paid workers on a series of short-term contracts, the need for multiple checks can be onerous. The Home Office plans to introduce a portable Disclosure and Barring service by summer 2013, to allow employers to check online whether an individual’s DBS check is up-to-date. If it is, there will be no need to apply for a new one.
