Pension contributions
[ch 8: page 235]Any employer occupational pension contributions must continue during maternity, paternity, adoption or SPL (or additional paternity leave for babies born or matched before 5 April 2015) throughout the paid leave period (whether pay is statutory or contractual). Pension contributions usually stop during periods of unpaid leave. The whole of the leave period (paid and unpaid) must be taken into account when assessing length of service for occupational pension purposes (Boyle v EOC [1998] IRLR 717).
