Chapter 11

The employer’s obligation to notify BEIS

[ch 11: pages 396-397]

The employer must notify the secretary of state for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) of all proposed redundancies of 20 or more employees. This is done using an HR1 form, sent to the Redundancy Payments Service, a division of the Insolvency Service and part of BEIS. The time frame matches the 30/45-day collective consultation period (see page 390). Failure to comply without good cause can result in prosecution and a fine of up to £5,000, for the company and/or officers of the company.
