Where there is a proposal to dismiss 20 or more employees for redundancy, the employer must consult appropriate representatives of any employees likely to be made redundant. Where a union is recognised, the appropriate representatives are the representatives of the union. They have the right to paid time off to take part in consultation and for training in their representation duties (see Chapter 5, page 152).
