Guardian’s Allowance

If you are looking after a child or children, both of whose parents have died (or if one has died and the other is absent for some other specified reason), and you are entitled to Child Benefit for the child/children, you could qualify for an additional Guardian’s Allowance of £17.60 a week for each child.

Guardian’s Allowance is a tax-free payment and is not counted as income for other benefits or the High-Income Child Benefit Charge and does not count towards the Benefit Cap (see Chapter 2).
