Estimate of deaths from work-related injury
The Hazards Campaign estimates that nationally during 2011-12, between 1,253 and 1,403 people were killed in work-related incidents, including:
• 173 workers whose deaths were reported to the HSE and local authority under RIDDOR;
• 90 members of the public killed by work activity;
• 50 workers killed at sea and in the air (estimated);
• approximately 790 killed in work-related road traffic accidents;
• 150-300 suicides due to pressure of work (suicides are up 10% on 2010-11).
