Rights during each assignment

While working on each separate assignment, unless they are genuinely self-employed, casual workers will be either employees or workers, depending on the degree of control exercised by the employer (Drake v IPSOS MORI UK Limited [2012]0604/11/2507). If they are employees, then each new assignment will create a fresh contract of employment. If they are not employees, they will be workers. In either case, they will be entitled to minimum statutory rights such as statutory sick pay, paid holiday, the National Minimum Wage and protection from discrimination.
