“Keeping in touch” (KIT) days
During maternity, adoption or additional paternity leave, an employee can carry out work or training of up to 10 days for the employer, without losing the right to statutory pay, and without bringing the statutory leave period to an end. These are known as Keeping in Touch or “KIT”days. Keeping in touch days are entirely voluntary and must be agreed by both the employee and the employer. Any remuneration beyond the statutory minimum is a matter for contractual negotiation. Any work or training will count as one of the ten KIT days, even if it lasts just a few hours.
