10. DISMISSAL

The law of unfair dismissal has been at the centre of the government’s attack on employment rights. This is primarily because unlike many of the laws discussed in this guide, unfair dismissal law is largely home-grown. In other words, the legislation was not brought in as a response to a European Directive. As a result, the government is free to make changes without being in breach of European law.
