[ch 5: page 48]In 2015 the CWU communication workers’ union teamed up with Royal Mail and Mind to re-sign the charity’s Time to Change pledge. The pledge is an “aspirational statement” showing that an organisation wants to take action to tackle the stigma and discrimination around mental health, focusing on the workplace in particular. At Royal Mail, CWU national health and safety officer Dave Joyce explained that the pledge is backed up by an action plan “to raise awareness and create a culture of allowing people to speak openly about mental health issues, including stress, anxiety and depression and get help and support”.
