Where there is a proposal to dismiss 20 or more employees for redundancy, the employer must consult the appropriate representatives of any employees likely to be made redundant. Where a union is recognised, the appropriate representatives are representatives of the union. Trade union representatives have the right to paid time off to take part in consultation.
