Calculating the number of collective redundancies

The duty to consult collectively is triggered when 20 or more redundancy dismissals are proposed over a 90-day period. When fewer than 20 redundancies are anticipated, the employer is not legally obliged to carry out collective consultation with the union or employee representatives, although individual consultation is still needed (See Chapter 4).
