Inflation lowest for two years
Retail inflation fell to its lowest level for over two years on the back of cheaper petrol and domestic energy.
In January 2019, the annual rate of inflation on the measure favoured by union negotiators — the Retail Prices Index — was down to 2.5% from 2.7% at the end of 2018.
Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index Housing (CPIH) fell to 1.8% from 2.0%.
