Stress
[ch 11: page 202]The TUC’s biennial survey, based on responses from over 1,000 trade union safety reps, consistently identifies stress as one of their top health and safety concerns. Once again, in the 2018 survey, more than two thirds (69%) of reps identified work-related stress as a top concern. It found that concern is higher in the public sector than the private sector and is especially prevalent in central government, with 90% of reps citing it, health services (85%) and education (84%). In local government, the proportion of reps reporting it as a main concern has increased from 72% in 2016 to 80% in 2018. It remains the most common concern in workplaces of all sizes.
