Chapter 8

How much is ASPP?

[ch 8: page 234]

ASPP is paid at the lesser of SMP (£138.18 per week — 2014-15) or 90% of average earnings.

There is no extra ASSP for multiple births. ASPP is only payable while the mother is entitled to SMP/MA. Since SMP/MA payments stop at 39 weeks and APL can only be taken starting from 20 weeks after the child is born, in practice ASPP can only be paid for a maximum of 19 weeks.

There is no right to payment for APL taken after the SMP/MA entitlement period has ended, unless a separate contractual entitlement has been negotiated.

ASPP is in addition to the two weeks Statutory Paternity Pay for Ordinary Paternity Leave available around the time of the baby’s birth (see page 230).
