Collective action on working time
[ch 9: page 167]Despite the legal protections under the WTR, several groups of workers have used collective action to protest against being forced to work long hours. For example, 120 Dial-a-ride workers in London, who provide special needs transport for elderly people, have recently taken part in a series of strikes in protest at the withdrawal of ten rest days a year and the imposition of new rosters. Their union, Unite, said the proposed changes would endanger the safety of its members and Dial-a-Ride users as drivers would not have sufficient time to recover between shifts.
