Non-renewal of a fixed-term contract

The coming to an end of a temporary (fixed-term) contract is a dismissal and the employee can claim unfair dismissal, as long as the other qualifying conditions are met (see page 264). It is unlawful to ask employees on fixed-term contracts to agree to waive their right to this protection.
