Work Capability Assessments
[ch 4: pages 51-52]Claimants of disability benefits must undergo Work Capability Assessments, or fit-for-work tests as they have become known. The tests have caused huge amounts of misery and stress for disabled people wrongly assessed as fit-for-work by a tick box exercise. In some cases, people who have been assessed as fit-for-work have died shortly after. Earlier this year, for example, Lawrence Bond died after suffering a heart attack just minutes after being found fit for work. In October 2016, work and pensions secretary Damian Green announced a consultation on reforming the tests.
