Chapter 10

Redundancy

[ch 10: page 285]

Redundancy can be a fair reason for dismissal. Even so, there are several ways in which a redundancy dismissal can be unfair, including:

• unfair selection;

• failure to consult properly;

• failure to offer suitable alternative employment.

Unfair dismissal for redundancy is looked at on pages 346-348 of Chapter 11: Redundancy. Reps can also find more detailed guidance in the LRD booklet Redundancy law — a guide to using the law for union reps (http://www.lrdpublications.org.uk/publications.php?pub=BK&iss=1690).
