Bullying and harassment at work - a guide for trade unionists

Chapter 6

What sort of policy?

There are different ways of developing policies on bullying and harassment. The TUC says that bullying at work should be dealt with as a health and safety issue, and that there should be a special policy relating to workplace bullying within the stress policy. However, some unions promote stand-alone bullying and harassment policies.

The type of policy that you negotiate may depend on what is most practical in your circumstances, including building on what has been successfully negotiated in the past. The TUC Workplace Manual, 2012 has an example of a joint management or union policy on bullying and harassment at work.
