Employers urged to publish race pay gap data
[ch 7: page 279]A government commissioned review – the Baroness McGregor-Smith Review published in February 2017 – has recommended that businesses with more than 50 employees should:
• publish a breakdown of their workforce by race and pay band;
• draw up five-year aspirational diversity targets; and
• nominate a board member to deliver on these targets.
TUC research published in August 2016 shows that Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) workers are a third more likely to be underemployed than white workers, while EHRC research, also published in 2016, found that BAME workers also face higher unemployment rates, lower pay and are underrepresented in senior roles.
