Giving notice of intention to take statutory adoption leave
[ch 9: page 319]The employer must be told of the intention to take statutory adoption leave within seven days of being matched with a child (or as soon as possible, if seven days is not reasonably practical). The rules are different for overseas adoption.
The employer is entitled to ask for proof of adoption.
The employer must be told:
• that the employee has been matched;
• the date the child is to be placed with the employee; and
• when the employee wants the leave to start.
The employer should respond within 28 days confirming the date the leave will end, as with maternity leave above.
