State support and coronavirus - a trade union guide

Chapter 2

What is the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS)?

[ch 2: page 12]

This scheme allows self-employed people, whose business has been adversely affected by the coronavirus crisis, to claim two taxable grants linked to their average monthly trading profits. These are paid out in two instalments, each covering three months, and capped at a total of £7,500 for the first three-month period and £6,750 for the second. Like the job retention scheme it is temporary, and applications for the second and final grant will open in August 2020.
