Grievance information required
Many of the points raised in relation to disciplinaries also relate to grievances (see Chapters 1, 7 and 8 above). The following is a summary:
Details of the grievance procedure must, by law, be set out by the employer in the employee’s written statement of terms and conditions, their contract of employment or in a letter of appointment (section 3 of the Employment Rights Act 1996 (ERA 96)). It is important that everyone knows that there is a procedure and how it operates. Check that the employer has arranged for supervisors, managers and representatives to be aware of and trained in the use of the procedures. Where appropriate, it may also be appropriate for managers to receive disability awareness training.
