Chapter 7

How is Housing Benefit paid?

[ch 7: pages 85-86]

Housing Benefit is paid by local authorities. It is paid into the rent accounts of council tenants and into the bank or building society accounts of private tenants, although in some cases it is made directly to landlords – for example, where people have drug or alcohol problems, serious medical conditions, or trouble managing their money.
