Who is eligible for Universal Credit?
[ch 4: page 29]You may be entitled to Universal Credit if:
• you are out of work or on a low income; and
• you and your partner have £16,000 or less in savings between you.
You must also be 18 or over (although in some circumstances those aged 16 to 17 can receive it) and you (or your partner) must be under State Pension age (see box below).
State Pension age
Your State Pension age is the earliest age you can start receiving your State Pension. Under the Pensions Act 2011, women’s State Pension age was increased to 65 by November 2018. Since December 2018, the State Pension age for both men and women has been increasing towards 68 at some time between 2037 and 2039, and it will reach 66 by October 2020.
