Rights to time off, facilities and training
[ch 11: page 378]Employees are entitled to reasonable paid time off to act as reps or candidates, and union reps are entitled to reasonable time off for certified training in the role (section 168, TULRCA 92).
Reps must be allowed access to employees, suitable office space and other appropriate facilities. In 2010, Acas updated its Code of Practice, Time off for trade union duties and activities, which contains guidance on appropriate facilities for trade union reps.
