Chapter 4

How is Universal Credit paid?

[ch 4: page 39]

Universal Credit is usually paid monthly into one nominated bank, building society or credit union account. There are different arrangements in Northern Ireland, where Universal Credit is normally paid to a household twice a month, and in Scotland, where you can ask for your Universal Credit to be paid twice a month instead of monthly.

People who think they will struggle to make sure the money for their rent reaches their landlord can ask for the amount for rent to be paid direct to the landlord through an Alternative Payment Arrangement or a Managed Payment to Landlords.

For those with children, the Universal Credit payment should go into the bank account of the main carer.
