Chapter 5

Menopause

[ch 5: pages 82-83]

The TUC guide, Supporting women through the menopause, advises that risk assessments should consider the needs of menopausal women, including issues like temperature and ventilation with easily adjustable temperature and humidity controls, toilet facilities, access to cold drinking water, and supply of uniform. The guide is available from the TUC website.

The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) launched a new guide for midwives and maternity staff working with the menopause as part of a new series of equality and diversity publications. Working with the menopause includes information on the symptoms of the menopause; the age profile of midwives; the effects of the menopause on work; the effects of the menopause on work in maternity units; what employers can do to help and what RCM workplace representatives can do.
