Law at Work 2017

Chapter 10

Redundancy

[ch 10: page 365]

Redundancy can be a fair reason for dismissal. However, there are several ways in which a redundancy dismissal can be unfair, including:

• unfair selection;

• failure to consult properly; and

• failure to offer suitable alternative employment.

Unfair dismissal for redundancy is looked at in Chapter 11: Redundancy, pages 431 to 434.

Reps can find more detailed guidance in the LRD booklet Redundancy law — a guide to using the law for union reps (www.lrdpublications.org.uk/publications.php?pub=BK&iss=1690).
